Bushido Karate Association, which is a member of the Scottish Karate Governing Body (SKGB) have a Child Protection Officer for the Association and also for our Clubs.
Fiona Higgins is the registered CPO for our Association.
The SKGB work with the following organisations:-
Children 1st
Sport Scotland
For the SKGB a CPO has to have the following:-
1. Enhanced Disclosure Scotland
2. In Safe Hands Workshop organised by the Child Protection in Sport Service.
- A three-hour course designed for those acting in sports clubs as the Child Protection Officer. It focuses on helping clubs to put child protection policies into practice by identifying and planning action required in the club to keep children, and those who work with them, safe.
3. scUK Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop organised by sportscotland.
- A three hour basic child protection awareness course that helps participants to identify good coaching practice and understand what constitutes abuse and how to take appropriate action if abuse is suspected.
Role of the Association Child Protection Officer

- Implement and promote Child Protection Policy and Procedures
- Act as main contact with the SKGB and the BKA Association
- Act as main contact within the clubs for the Protection of children
- Report cases, concerns and actions taken, to the relevant authorities
